If your tooth is knocked out, don’t panic. Acting quickly is key if you want to save the tooth. First of all, pick up the tooth by its crown and gently rinse it to remove any dirt or debris. If possible, try to gently place the tooth back in its original socket. If not, submerge the tooth in a glass of milk until you can get to our office.
It’s important to act quickly in the event of a knocked-out tooth. If you can get to an emergency dentist within the first three hours, the tooth can often be saved. However, this depends on each individual case.
When you break, crack, or chip a tooth, the first thing to do is to rinse your mouth out with warm water. If you were hit in the mouth, apply a cold compress to the area to reduce pain and swelling. You can also take acetaminophen (not aspirin) to help manage any dental pain.
If part of the tooth has broken off, try to save the tooth fragment if you can. Then, call our office and we’ll fit you in as soon as we can.Not every broken or cracked tooth is a dental emergency, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
