Dentures are removable false teeth you wear during the day to eat and talk. Our Grand Haven dentists can help you determine whether you need full or partial dentures based on your oral health. For example, you may only need a partial denture to replace a few upper teeth, while full dentures can replace an entire arch of missing teeth.
If you think you would feel self-conscious with missing teeth before having any teeth pulled, ask our dentists about getting immediate dentures. Like the name suggests, immediate dentures are given to you immediately after tooth extraction. We will remove your teeth, then place the dentures over the area while it heals. The result is a natural-looking smile immediately after your appointment.
Since the immediate dentures themselves are made prior to the tooth extraction, you’ll need to see our dentures dentist to adjust the fit. Once your bones and gums shrink and heal, your dentist will need to adjust the fit again. Immediate dentures work well in the short term and are sometimes called temporary dentures.
Conventional dentures are made a few months after tooth extraction, once your bones and gums have shrunk and healed. As a result, you can expect your conventional dentures to fit more comfortably at first and need less adjusting over time.
Occasionally, even conventional dentures require some adjustment. If your dentures seem to be slipping more than usual, feel free to call our office to set up an appointment.
Dentures are an effective way to replace missing teeth for many patients. At Grand Haven Smiles, we’re happy to explain the procedure at your dental exam in order to help you make the best choice for your teeth.
